The Florida Department of Agriculture grades and standards is a crucial resource for Growers, Landscape Architects, Contractors, Inspectors and others to communicate and evaluate the quality of trees, palms and ornamentals. Tropical Gardens Landscape uses this as a guide for selection of all planting materials for your projects. Only the highest of quality is acceptable when it comes to the health and longevity of your landscaping investment.
The grades and standards was first published in 1965, then revised in 1998 with a 10 step evaluation process. Now in its 5th edition, the newest Florida Grades and Standards, which was last published in 2016, provided a more streamlined 7 step process that includes the overall evaluation of the roots and canopy health of plants, palms and trees.
